GSTIN Identifier
Enter a GST number to check whether it is correctly formed and to see the state, PAN, taxpayer type and registration count hidden inside it.
How a GST number is built
Every GSTIN is 15 characters long and follows a fixed pattern. Take 27AAPFU0939F1ZV: “27” is the state code for Maharashtra, “AAPFU0939F” is the taxpayer’s PAN, “1” shows this is the first registration of that PAN in the state, “Z” is a default character, and “V” is a check digit calculated from the first fourteen characters.
What this tool tells you
- Whether the number is correctly formed and passes the official check-digit test.
- The state or union territory in which the registration was taken.
- The PAN inside the GSTIN, so you can match it against the supplier’s invoices.
- The type of taxpayer — company, firm or LLP, individual, HUF, trust and so on.
- How many registrations that PAN holds in the same state.
What it cannot tell you
Bluman is a private platform and is not the GST portal. Trade name, legal name, registration date, taxpayer type (regular or composition) and whether the registration is active or cancelled are held only by GSTN, and must be checked on the official “Search Taxpayer” page.
Frequently asked questions
What does a GSTIN contain?
A GSTIN has 15 characters: the first two are the state code, the next ten are the PAN of the taxpayer, the thirteenth shows the number of registrations of that PAN in the state, the fourteenth is 'Z' by default, and the fifteenth is a check digit.
Does this tool connect to the GST portal?
The structure check and decoding run entirely in your browser. The GST portal does not publish an open lookup service, so the tool gives you a one-click link to the official 'Search Taxpayer' page where the trade name, registration date and status can be confirmed.
Is a valid check digit proof that a GSTIN exists?
No. The check digit only confirms the number is mathematically well formed. A number can pass this test and still not be registered, or be cancelled. Always confirm on the official portal before treating it as valid for input tax credit.
What if the PAN inside the GSTIN does not match my supplier's PAN?
That is a red flag. The ten characters from position three to twelve are the supplier's PAN and must match the PAN on their invoices and returns.
This tool is provided for convenience and does not constitute confirmation of a supplier’s GST registration. Verify on the official portal before acting on it.
